School LED Sign Upgrade
WiPath recently completed a major School LED Sign upgrade for Northcote Intermediate School in Auckland, replacing a 10-year-old Digital LED Sign with a modern high-resolution 3.91mm Digital LED Sign. This School Digital Signage project delivers improved image quality, cloud-based content management, enhanced reliability, and a future-ready communication platform for students, parents, staff, and the wider community.
The original School LED Sign was installed by WiPath more than a decade ago and served as an effective communication tool for school announcements, community messaging, student achievements, event promotions, and important information. As technology advanced, the school required a modern Digital Signage solution capable of displaying high-definition images, vibrant colours, and dynamic content while maintaining reliability and ease of use.
Northcote Intermediate School partnered with WiPath to upgrade the existing Digital LED Sign while retaining the original structure and foundations, providing a cost-effective and sustainable solution.

Static Signage Recreation
As part of the project, WiPath also upgraded the static branding panels surrounding the LED display.
The previous signage had experienced fading due to long-term weather exposure and vandalism. New ACM cladding panels were manufactured and installed featuring updated school branding, logos, colours, and graphics supplied by the school.
The combination of a modern Digital LED Sign and professionally finished static signage creates a highly visible and attractive entrance feature for the school.
Reusing Existing Infrastructure
One of the major benefits of this School LED Sign Upgrade was the ability to reuse the original infrastructure.
The existing support structure and concrete plinth had been installed by WiPath more than 10 years ago using high-quality materials and protective coatings designed for long-term outdoor performance.
After inspection, the structure remained in excellent condition and required only minor modifications to support the new Digital LED Sign.

Because the existing structure and foundation were reused, there was no requirement for new site surveys, underground service investigations, or foundation construction.
Workshop Refurbishment and Manufacturing
The project began with the removal of the existing School LED Sign using a Hiab crane.
The structure was transported back to WiPath’s Auckland workshop where refurbishment and upgrade works commenced.
The process included:
- Removal of the existing LED display
- Structural inspection
- Surface preparation
- Repainting and corrosion protection
- Steel structure modifications
- Installation of new ACM cladding
- Full quality assurance testing
This approach ensured the refurbished structure was ready to support the latest generation School Digital Signage technology.
High-Resolution 3.91mm School Digital Signage Technology
The upgraded Digital LED Sign features modern 3.91mm pixel pitch technology.
Compared with the previous 10mm display, the new screen provides significantly higher resolution, allowing the school to display:

Quality Assurance and Testing
Before installation, the complete Digital LED Sign system was assembled and tested at WiPath’s workshop.
The display was operated continuously under load conditions to ensure all components were functioning correctly prior to deployment.
Testing included:

- Controller configuration
- Network connectivity testing
- Cloud platform integration
- Performance monitoring
This process ensured the new School Digital Signage system was fully operational before installation.
School LED Sign Installation Process
Once manufacturing and testing were completed, the upgraded Digital LED Sign was transported back to Northcote Intermediate School.
A crane was used to lift and position the refurbished structure onto the existing concrete plinth.
The installation process included:
- Removal of the old sign
- Transport of the refurbished structure
- Crane-assisted positioning
- Installation of the new LED display
- Connection to existing power and data services
- Final commissioning and testing
Because the structure, power, and communication infrastructure already existed, the installation process was completed in approximately two hours.
